Door Poems

(created under the influence of magnets)

These poems were all written using Magnetic Poetry Kits.  I own the Original, Sequel, and Romance sets, and would like to add Artist, Erotic, and Christian (see my Stuff List for other ideas if you're in a gift-giving mood).

You can write online Door Poems as part of a daily contest at www.poetry.com--they give away $100 daily for the best poem closest to the random time they select (that random time thing does kinda takes all the 'mph out, though, doesn't it?).  On 11/10/99 there were 492 entries, so your odds are much better than playing the lottery, and it's free to enter!

I'm not sure that most Door Poems are "real" poems, for a few reasons:

  • Door Poems limit your word choices to available magnet words:  not necessarily a bad thing, but over time they all begin to sound the same-ish to me (just how many times do the words shadows or symphony have to appear, hmmm?)
  • Door Poems on www.poetry.com are limited to 20 magnets or less:  very annoying (perhaps I'm just too wordy?)
  • Door Poems rarely seem to mesh into a whole and are more like quick sketches of a thought/sentiment:  they're more like drafts or ideas than poems, I think

Perhaps I'm just prejudiced?

In case this wasn't obvious, all the poems are copyright (c) 1999 by Allan T. Grohe, Jr., all rights are reserved, and the poems cannot be reproduced without my prior permission (save for review excerpts).
