Hollow

Exhaling for what seems like
ever, I deflate
like a balloon
My face crumples like a hand puppet
without a hand
Weightless, I float

My legs and arms sag
hang limp
The breeze carries me
I see see the ground grow further
and farther away
My fingers and toes point
like Ahab's compass--with a will
of their own they draw me out to sea

where the rain freezes, fills, and weights me
I sink toward the Atlantic
and, from the inside out, drown
