In the Shadow of Kilimanjaro
At first, I walk around the mountain
I survey scrub grass once-browned by autumn
now grey with frost,
and high above the plateau
The sun chases deep shadow over me
and begins the race
I run, thin air in my lungs,
and inhale the whole east wind
with each breath
Trailing clouds, I count
quarter-hours in the sky,
and gain seconds against the sun
Swift minutes, and still
in the shadow of Kilimanjaro,
I chase the dark of noon,
the horizon only moments behind
Return to Imrryr.
