                from the corner of my eye
                    you at my right
                i try   not
                to be a distraction

                    you shift a little
                                 over more to the right
                                 a pivot away
                                     closer to focused
                on your notes
                    and the professor’s lecture

                                      pressed against
                                      the next row of chairs
                                            your big toe flexed and stressed
                                                 but only a moment
                                                                   before shifting         further

                                 antsy? hmmmm

                                                 i shift my elbow         closer
                                                      to meet yours

                                                                   do you notice?

                                            the hint of your smile
                                                 even during this sterile presentation           distracts
                                                             and draws me

                                                                                           closer
                                                                                                without moving at all
