Allan Grohe's New Tunes of Note

Lots of musical fun has been coursing between my blonde-bounded ears of late (that is, around March of '99), including, in no particular order:

  • Sarah McLachlan's Fumbling Towards Ecstacy has been playing inordinately often, primarily because my roommate owns the CD as well as myself, so one stays in rotation on the home stereo, one in my car stereo . . . .
  • Fish, especially Sunsets on Empire and Internal Exile, but that's sort of like saying I enjoy vodka or breathing or lusting or . . . . I'm very much looking forward to Raingods with Zippos, Fish's new lp due in April '99; the early Marillion remasters, especially Fugazi, have also been seeing frequent rotation
  • Eroica Trio's two albums I've been able to find (their debut album--called appropriately enough Eroica Trio--and their second effort, with pieces by Dvorak, Shostakovich, and Rachmaninov)
  • barenaked ladies' albums Stunt and Gordon; my friend Drew introduced me to these guys while in California--great harmonies, fun and varied tunes
  • Annie Lennox, both solo and in the Eurythmics (this isn't an official Annie page, but I like it a lot anyway)
  • Annie Haslam and Renaissance, especially the song-epic "Scheherazade"
  • Beth Williams' third lp, Oooh La La; Beth's an old friend from PSU, and a part of the Neo Pseudo circle of musical performers
  • Fields of the Nephilim still lurk about in the darker moments of my listenings, particularly The Nephilim album and the Sumerland (Dreamed Version) single
