The Grodog's New Tunes of Note

I rejoined BMG Music Club yet again, so my CD collection has grown in yet another big jump this past week.   I'm beginning to seriously think about a second CD rack, or moving some into the office or something like that.

  • Porcupine Tree's single "Piano Lessons" (from their new album Stupid Dream) is just incredible.  I really like it a lot, and think that it would be a good way to turn on anyone to the band, so give it a whirl.   It's available through Snapper Records in the UK, and through any good importer in the 'States.  It's so good, I'm listening to it right now! :-)

Here's the lyrics to the song "Stupid Dream," in case that would help you turn to PTree-dom:

I remember piano lessons
The hours in free freezing rooms
Cruel ears and tiny hands
Destroying timeless tunes

She said there's too much out there
Too much already said
You'd better give up hoping
You're better off in bed

You don't need much to speak of
No class, no wit, no soul
Forget your own agenda
Get ready to be sold

I feel now like Christine Keeler
Sleepwalking in the rain
I didn't mean to lose direction
I didn't want that kind of fame

(Take your hands off my land)

Credit me with some intelligence
(if not just credit me)
I come in value packs of ten
(in five varieties)

And even though I got it all now
My only stupid dream
Is you and me together
And how it should have been

I remember piano lessons
Now everything seems clear
You waiting under streetlights
For dreams to disappear

  • Fish's new album Raingods with Zippos, is quite good.  A bit uneven, as I'm not very fond of the first two songs, but I'm sure they'll grow on me with time.
  • barenaked ladies' albums Stunt and Gordon have continued to keep me intrigued; I'm still trying to master the lyrics to "One Week," without much success; I also picked up Rock Spectacle at a respectable price ($6) used, so that's fuelling the fire
  • Madonna's new album, Ray of Light, kicks butt!  If you like this, check out some of the various Space Rock bands I list on my music page:   Porcupine Tree, Hawkwind, the Orb, etc.
  • the 80's fever-dream continues:   along with my recent Madonna acquisition, I ordered:  Jouney's Greatest Hits, the Eurythymics' Greatest Hits, the Moody Blues' Long Distance Voyager, Duran Duran's first album, Air Supply's Greatest Hits, and AC/DC's Back in Black

Feel free to read my older new tunes scribblings, if you like.
