Blazon:
Per fesse embattled black and white, a hawk demi gold arising from

Commentary: Greyhawk’s military might prior
to eponymously named war was best suited to garrisoning forts along
the Domain’s frontier, mostly in the Cairn Hills and along
the Selintan River, or the walls of the Free City itself. It was
more than a plain militia in its duties but far less than the professional
armies of the Great Kingdom.
In what can only be assumed as a move to keep the
militia from gaining too much power the Mayor and the Directors
of the Free
City placed their military under the direct control of the Captain-General
of the City Guard, which is still true today. It is telling that
the Oligarchs are more concerned about keeping them under control
rather than making them an effective army.
The arms of the Greyhawk militia prior to the Greyhawk Wars is
plain and utilitarian. All units used this arms with little
to distinguish them from one another. Units came up with badges
(crossed swords for infantry, crossed arrows for archers/crossbow
men, and
spurs for cavalry of their particular units, but this was never
officially approved. These were incorporated later into the
Post-Greyhawk
War militia arms.
