Blazon: Per fesse a pale counter changed gold
and blue, a castle black.
Commentary: The capital
city of Radigast resides in the County of Urnst along the eastern
shore of the Nyr Dyv. For such an important local its heraldry
is remarkably boring. However, it does illuminate the basics
of civic heraldry.
Let's start with the crest in fig. 2. The current crest is
a demi swan atop a crown (of note, this is a generic crown,
not a one specifically for a Count). As the capital of the
County and the seat of its ruler this addition is warranted.
The swan is a reference to the arms of the County. This version
of the crest is a relatively recent addition in 498 CY when
the County became a palatine of the Duchy of Urnst. Normally,
this would mean the crest would reference the arms of its liege,
in this case a bear, but the County really only gives lip service
to the idea of being a vassal of the Duchy.
Prior to 498 CY the crest was a demi radiant sun first as
a vassal of the Great Kingdom and the Nyrond. The swan was
a supporter and was replaced by a pelican when the swan was
made part of the crest (see fig. 3).
The anchor and water birds are a reference to Radigast being
a port and its use of water as a compartment is very unusual,
normally it is stone or earth.

Radiant Sun King at Arms
