Configure
Overview - In general this dialog box is used for restricting the
monsters randomly rolled to a subgroup. If you want creatures with
a specific statistic to be included in your subgroup set the Selected column
to True; if you want to exclude these creatures then set the Selected column
to False. The blank lines in these selection tables are result of
having the 'General' creature of a specific type in the database.
For example: Automatons, General and Genie, Tasked, General are both
in the database, however, almost all of the statistics are blank.
Frequency Tab - Allows you to change
configurations that have to do with the Frequency of a monster.
Terrain Tab - Allows you to
change configurations that have to do with the Terrain of a monster.
Climate Tab - Allows you to change
configurations that have to do with the Climate of a monster.
Campaign Tab - Allows you to change
configurations that have to do with the Campaign of a monster.
Plane Tab - Allows you to change configurations
that have to do with the Plane of a monster.
Type Tab - Allows you to change configurations
that have to do with the Type of a monster.
Sources Tab - Allows you to change
configurations that have to do with the Sources of a monster.
Diet Tab - Allows you to change configurations
that have to do with the Diet of a monster.
Edit Monster Tab - Allows you
to edit monster statistics and add new monsters.
Default Button - This will change all your settings to previously
stored default settings.
Ok
Button - This will save all your changes and return you to the main
screen.
Cancel
Button - This will return you to the main screen without saving any
changes which you made.
Set Default Button - This will make all your current settings
your new default settings.
Frequency Grid:
If you want monsters of a particular frequency to be included in your
sub-group you need to change its Selected attribute to True. This
can be done by either double clicking the corresponding Selected entry
or using the drop down menu.
C is for Common
UC for Uncommon
R for Rare
VR for Very Rare
VVR for Very Very Rare
U for Unique
I added the Very Very Rare and Unique frequencies. Very Very
Rare would indicate such creatures as Avatars, where there exists more
than one, but its a lot less likely to encounter an Avatar than say an
Aarakocra. Unique would be those creatures that only one exists.
The database currently does NOT have any creatures which have either of
these two frequencies. You can however, change frequencies by using
the Set Frequency button or manually editing particular monsters using
the Edit Monster Tab.
Selected:
If you want to include Monsters having a particular frequency set the
Selected field to True, otherwise set it to False. One can double
click the Selected entry box to toggle between True and False; or one can
use the drop down menu to make your choice.
Weight:
This refers to the relative chance that a monster with said frequency
will be randomly determined. See Random Method, below, for a more
detailed explanation.
Random Method:
Sum all monsters for a given frequency:
-
Count the number of monsters for every given frequency. e.g. 30 monsters
with a frequency of common which match the Terrain, Climate, Campaign,
and Plane. 20 with Uncommon, 30 with Rare, and 40 with Very Rare.
-
Multiply this number by the 'weight'. e.g. Common (30 * 650 = 19500),
Uncommon (200 * 20 = 4000), Rare ( 30 * 70 = 2100), and Very Rare (40 *
30 = 1200).
-
Add all of these numbers together (19500+4000+2100+1200=26800).
-
Roll a random number from 1 to the above number. e.g. 26800.
-
Count up the 'weights' of the monster until you get to the selection.
e.g. you roll a
640 -- 1st monster in the Common frequency group.
13000 -- 20th monster in Common frequency group (20 * 650)
25601 -- 1st monster in Very Rare frequency group (30*650 + 20*200
+ 30*70 + 1*30).
-
This method means that if you happen to have many more Very Rare creatures
than Common creatures then you will have a much higher chance of getting
something that is Very Rare.
Roll the frequency and then the monster for said frequency:
-
Total up the 'weights' of the frequencies. (650+200+70+30+5+1=956).
-
Roll a random number ranging from 1 to the above number (956).
-
Chose your frequency based on the roll and the frequency 'weights'.
| Roll |
Frequency |
| 1-650 |
Common |
| 651-850 |
Uncommon |
| 851-920 |
Rare |
| 921-950 |
Very Rare |
| 951-955 |
Very Very Rare |
| 956 |
Unique |
-
Count how many creatures exist with that frequency and which meet the chosen
Terrain, Climate, Campaign, and Plane.
-
Roll a random number from 1 to the 'Count' above. This number indicates
which creature is chosen.
-
For example: You first roll a 901 (which indicates a Rare creature).
Then you count the number of Rare creatures and you get 100. Then
you roll a random number from 1 to 100 and get 67. Thus the creature
you rolled is the 67th Rare monster which meets the chosen Terrain, Climate,
Campaign, and Plane.
-
This method means that if you have a lot of Common creatures but very few
Very Rare creatures that it may be more probable that a particular Very
Rare creature is rolled than a particular Common creature.
If the above confuses you don't worry about it. Just chose a method,
roll, and if you don't like the result roll again.
Set Frequency
This button automatically adjusts the frequencies of certain creatures.
-
This will set the frequency of any creature with a name matching Avatar
and a source of Legends and Lore and a current Frequency of Very Rare to
Very Very Rare. It
-
This will also set the frequency of any creature with a name matching 'Hero'
or 'Villian', a source of Legends and Lore, and a current frequency of
Very Rare to Unique.
Reset Frequency
This button will undo the adjustments to frequency that the Set Frequency
button does.
