Asperd Isle (also seen as Asperdi Isle and Isle of Asperdi) is the largest island in the Domain of the Sea Barons, and contains the capital city, Asperdi, as well as Ironport. Anyone sailing to the Island from the Great Kingdom, by unofficial understanding, sails into Ironport. Baron Basmajian Arras maintains a small fleet on the island, consisting of twelve coasters, as well as fishing fleet consisting of fifteen vessels.
Description
[edit | edit source]The island is quite large and contains over half the population of the Sea Baronies. That being said, very few people visit the island. To do so requires being known to the Naval Phalanx, a personal invitation from the baron himself or one of his liegemen, or a visiting permit—which requires whoever holds it to not only pay 150 gold, but also submit to a tattoo of an iguana's head on the left forearm.
History
[edit | edit source]The baron of Asperd Isle customarily acts as the Lord High Admiral and leader of the Dominion of the Sea Barons—admiral of the Great Kingdom's fleet originally, later of the Sea Baronies' fleet. This comes from when Baron Asperd won a naval battle and his name became synonymous with the island itself and the Asperdi-Duxchan chain.
Geography
[edit | edit source]The island is the northernmost island in the Asperdi-Duxchan chain, off the coast of Winetha.
Resources
[edit | edit source]The main export for which Asperd Isle is noted, apart from the foodstuffs the entire island chain is noted for, is the resinous tar, which has many uses for builders and alchemists.
Rumors and legends
[edit | edit source]The Island is home to Tar Hill, which is surrounded by rumors of dark magic.
