Benkend is a village in the former South Province of the Great Kingdom.

History

[edit | edit source]

Benkend is a known recruiting ground for mercenaries and for trade with and spying on Rel Deven. It was a hot-bed of intrigue during and just after the Greyhawk Wars, as various Torquann, Naelax, Darmen and Cranden princes vied for control of the area.

Geography

[edit | edit source]

Benkend is a sizeable village in what used to be the southernmost province of the Great Kingdom.

Travel

[edit | edit source]

The road to the west of the village has been rerouted by some three miles. Though there is an abundance of vegetation, the previous course of the road is still readily apparent as a trail or cart tracks.

Rumors and legends

[edit | edit source]

On the path of the original road there are yard-long, inch-deep humanoid footprints. Rumor has it that the footprints appeared overnight around 485 CY. Those who live nearby say the tracks are often a portent of dreadful things, having filled with blood on at least two occasions—"just before Chelor's abduction by Ivid's armies, and the night before Chathold was razed to the ground."{{csb|Ivid|
