Der Schokoladehuis (trans: the chocolate house, fr. German/Dutch) is a famous confectionery in Schwartzenbruin. It is owned by Hânz Mordenkainen, rumored to be the "son, or perhaps nephew"[1] of the famous Mordenkainen, or even the archmage himself "assuming a guise for some obscure arcane reasons".[2] Hânz's wife, Frederika, and staff assist Hans in producing Perrenland's only schokolade with his special recipe which is unknown to anyone else, an exceedingly rare and expensive confection.[3] Varieties include schwartzschocolade and melkschocolade; it is made with "sugar, milk, chocolate liquor, and cocoa butter mixed in carrying amounts".[4]
The basement of the confectionary has a supply closet with special, keyed teleportation engravings on the floor, allowing Hanz "to receive shipments of sugar and coco beans from the Mordenkainen, and to send supplies of schokolade back. Only non-living items can be safely transported—anything living would not survive the journey."[5]
Publishing history
[edit | edit source]Der Schokoladehuis appeared in the Perrenland regional adventure, Mordenkainen's House of Chocolate (RPGA 2002). It was presented as "full of animated confectionery constructs in a whimsical Disneyland-style fashion, where the characters ...have to deal with ... a [chocolate] golem and a rare gelatin (no, not gelatinous) cube".[2]
