Gh'alar is a character with demonic heritage who "serves as a mercenary in Iuz's wars with the good lands."[1]
Description
[edit | edit source]Appearance
[edit | edit source]Gh'alar is depicted in art with a clearly groteque face with wild, unruly hair—though the rest off his personal appearance is obscured by armor.[1]
Home
[edit | edit source]Gh'alar lives in the Empire of Iuz around the time the Greyhawk Wars ended.[1]
Possessions
[edit | edit source]Little is known about the gear Gh'alar uses. He has a longsword +2 and wears platemail.[1]
His most significant possession, however, is the undead horse he rides. No one else is able to ride the horse.[1]
Relationships
[edit | edit source]Allies and minions
[edit | edit source]"Gh'alar has a small force of about 50 orcs and orogs that serves him"[1]
History
[edit | edit source]At or near the end of the Greyhawk Wars, Gh'alar was serving in the forces of the Empire of Iuz, and had goals to garner the attention of Iuz himself, by gaining fame and wealth in the war.[1]
Publishing history
[edit | edit source]Gh'alar originally appeared (by that name) as one of the NPCs presented in the Trading Cards line on card number #9 of 11 in the GenCion 1992 Promo set.
The art was cropped from Jeff Easley's cover of From the Ashes. Though the cover art for the boxed set represents a theoretical character in Greyhawk, the name "Gh'alar" was only given on the trading card.

Trivia
[edit | edit source]Jeff Easley described this piece of art (originally on the cover of From the Ashes, and titled the same), on card #36 from his art trading card series:
"This was the only time I've ever painted an undead horse. It's easier than painting a live one, At least if you leave someting out, you can claim it fell off."
