The Imperial Highlanders are a well-disciplined group of soldiers who garrison the Highlander Castles, built along the Teesar Torrent in Aerdiaak (or "North Province" and later, North Kingdom), to defend against the humanoids of the Bone March to the northwest[1]. They patrol the area between the castles, though they occasionally take a more proactive approach, running raids into the Blemu Hills.[1]
History
[edit | edit source]The group is originally under the control of the Great Kingdom of Aerdy, specifically North Province, before they break away, seceding from the province. They continue to call themselves the Imperial Highlanders, and put themselves under the control of Baron-General Shalaster, because they are impressed with his military prowess and dislike the fact that Grenell works with various humanoids, particularly being forced to work with orcs during the war with Nyrond. The group does not consider themselves traitors, because they do not actively oppose the herzog and Shalaster continues to pay tithes and taxes.[1]
Members
[edit | edit source]The group got their start fighting in the Blemu Hills and the Rakers. It is highly disciplined and is mainly composed of well-trained hillfolk. They also have combat mages who have their own tower from which they can teleport to any of the castles.[1] There is also a talented young diviner in Shalaster's personal retinue who uses scrying to help them pick targets. The group controls four trained wyverns ridden by the Baron-Gneral and three of his senior officers.[1]
45 dwarves join up with the Highlanders when they are found during a raid the old Ripper Mines where they had been pinned down by orcs and ogres from c.573-585 CY. The dwarves, grateful for the rescue, provide their expert knowledge of the area to aid in the Highlanders work.[1]
Headquarters
