King's Justice is small town that grew from a fortified tavern into a keep with a village, which amounts to a free borough. The name comes from the fact that it was originally a place where session judges (local magistrates or Justices of the Peace) came to preside over lower-level offenses. It passed through the hands of landholders who didn't care to enforce much in the way of law and order locally, which has made it a haven for deserters, many of whom live in the slums on the western side of town.[1]

It is a rough place, with only low levels of actual law enforcement. There is commonly "riotous behavior, brawling, and revelry.... And there are many men hiding from the wrath of deserted rulers and commanding officers."[1]

History

[edit | edit source]

The town is popular for the Windmarch fair it shares with Darnagal, held in the third week of Harvester, which is present from the early 810s CY until the route falls apart during and directly after the Greyhawk Wars (c.585 CY).[2]

Geography

[edit | edit source]

The town's location "between Delaric, Dustbridge, and Eastfair"[2] has made it a key recruiting ground for mercenaries, as they often travel through the area.[2]
