The Lucky Monkey is a roadhouse on the Amedio Highway between Sasserine and Cauldron, northwest of Cauldron.. It has a chapel to Fharlanghn, which is occasionally visited by a wandering cleric.
Description
[edit | edit source]The Lucky Monkey is large—over 125 feet wide—it contains its own open-air courtyard inside the inn with trees, flowerbeds, marble fountains, and white gravel path leading to and from the multiple entrances to the lush coutyard.[1]
From the outside, the inn is well-used and there are signs of its age. The roof is beginning to sag ever so much, the chimney has soot marks which haven't been cleaned, there's a hint of mildew on the edges of the wooden siding, etc.[2]
There are "sturdy, wooden shutters cover[ing] both ground and second floor windows of the inn." Each shutter is locked.[2]
The interior of the Lucky monkey is "comfortable" and "cozy".[2][3]
A library and reading room lies just off the garden courtyard on the first floor.[3]
Services
[edit | edit source]The second floor holds all of the guest bedrooms. They are all generally spacious and comfortable. There are a dozen smaller private rooms and four larger private rooms, each with it's own fireplace, large table, bookcase, and double or queen size bed. There is also the "floproom" which is a general common sleeping room with around a dozen bunks available.[4]
In addition to the common room downstairs, there is a guest lounge upstairs, giving guests a less crowded and quiter "place to relax or play cards."[5]
Upstairs, there are two baths available for guests.[5]
Stables are available at the Lucky Monkey, with stalls for up to twenty-four horses.[2]
History
[edit | edit source]When the Lucky monkey was constructed, the local church of Fharlanghn provided a large portion of the funding—with the provision that a chapel to Fharlanghn was built therein.[1]
In 593 CY, the Lucky Monkey is attacked by a half-orc were-baboon lycanthrope named Tongueater (LE male half-orc Bbn3) with a group of bandits known as the Alleybashers, as well as several other thugs.[6]
Geography
[edit | edit source]The Lucky Monkey sits about one full day's travel by horse (24 miles) northwest from Cauldron.[7][8]
People
[edit | edit source]Local lumberjacks and explorers frequent the inn as often as travelers, and it is popular among them.[7][8]
Notable individuals
[edit | edit source]- Shensin Tesseril (LN female half-drow elf Brd1/Drd3/Mnk1)—caretaker of the shrine of Fharlanghn.[9]
Resources
[edit | edit source]Indirectly a resource of the inn, maps to and of the inn are readily available in Cauldron.[8]
Rumors & Legends
[edit | edit source]It is not uncommon to hear rumors of travelers being accosted by highwaymen or other nearby bandit activity.[10]
