Nomenclature for expansion pages
[edit source]Abra Saghast So I know we talked about it being annoying to reference Archbarony this or Fieldbarony that, but what if we did things like "Markham, Archbarony"? This way it's easier to put in but still gets the job done. Especially for places like Markham that has the Field Barony of Grey Hills and the town of Hillguard and the Archbarony itself has Count's Markham, Applebee, Dunrealta, the Birrinis Forest, Honeypot woods, and I'm sure a few other places as I go though the adventures. thoughts? - Merry Christmas!
- Looks like you've been busy!! I'm not sure, so please tell me if I am misunderstanding. You're talking about how I was saying it's annoying for seeing it written that way, because "Lord Barony" and "Field Barony" aren't a real thing, and they misapplied the name of the ruler's title to the realm? Or how I was saying that we can't have them for page titles? I think it's the latter.
- So, absolutely. If there's enough information about a topic, split if off into its own page!
- The issue with "Markham, Archbarony" from a technical code PoV is the comma in the title. From a Mediawiki PoV, it's that there's standards for pretty much everything. Up to this point, if there is a settlement and a province (or nation) that need to be distinguished, it's with
(realm). Disambiguators are always put in parenthesis, because Mediawiki knows to ignore disambiguators in titles for things like italics and redirects. So, absolutely, if there's enough to give a place it's own article, absolutely make one with a disambiguator. - That also cleanly avoids having four dozen and six pages that all begin with "Barony of", and it would simply be
Grey Hill (realm)orMarkham (realm). And if there were, for example, so much information about an inn or settlement or whatever else, to make a full article and not a <nowiki>{{stub}}</nowiki>, then by all means, separate articles for Hillguard, Count's Markham, Applebee, Dunrealta, the Birrinis Forest, and the Honeypot woods. - (Although, I can't fucking believe they called something a "honey pot" and I'm not entirely sure we should include it, unless it's suuuuuuper important to the plot of something, rather than something that just shows up on a map.)
