Vhaeraun (vay-RAWN), also known as the Masked Lord and the Masked God of Night, is the drow god of thievery, drow males, and evil activity on the surface world.
Description
[edit | edit source]As an avatar, Vhaeraun appears as a normal male drow,[1] handsome with a slim, graceful, and toned physique.[2] He can change his size as he wants[3] and appears either with a height of 16 feet (4.9 meters)[2][4] or six feet (1.8 meters).[5] His body is surrounded by shadow that does not just randomly lighten and darken, but his body seemingly disappears when this shadow goes over him. By allowing it to swallow him completely, Vhaeraun can conduct a rapid form of teleportation.[6]
He holds the unique view among drow that males and females are equally valuable[7] and is primarily prayed to by those drow males who seek a better life than slavery under Lolth's matriarchy[2]and who oppose it.[8]
Relationships
[edit | edit source]Vhaeraun is the son of Araushnee[9] and Corellon Larethian.[10]
Realm
[edit | edit source]Vhaeraun resides in his deific domain Ellaniath[11] on Carceri's layer of Colothys. It's said that no one can find it without his permission, as the Masked Lord wiped the memories of any visitor.[12]
The Masked Lord’s small realm amounts to little more than a hiding place where the god can hole up when Lolth’s patience with him runs out.
Dogma
[edit | edit source]Worshipers
[edit | edit source]Vhaeraun's worshipers include assassins, male drow and half-drow, poisoners, shadowdancers, rogues, and thieves.
Clergy
[edit | edit source]The church of Vhaeraun is loosely organized, mainly due to persecution from the priestesses of Lolth who rule over the majority of the drow race. Vhaeraun's clergy is almost entirely male, and they practice a passive opposition to Lolth. Aside from that, Vhaeraun strives to reclaim the surface world from which he was forced to flee.
Some priests of Vhaeraun advocate unity of the elven races in order to more easily dominate the surface world. Most, however, view this as heresy.
