Writing guidelines: Creatures
In addition to the general Writing Guidelines, articles on Greyhawk creatures should be in the following format; note that some subjects will not require every section:
The creature infobox should be used for all creature articles, with as many values filled in as possible.
The format used generally follows that established in the Monster Manual IV.
The introductory paragraph should contain, at minimum, the creature's name (in bold) and type, followed by the following sections.
Ecology
[edit | edit source]Generally, this section will describe the creature's "role" and how it interacts with the surrounding world.
Environment
[edit | edit source]The physical environment the creature typically lives in, including terrain, climate, geography, or places such as cities or regions. This section should also include notable things about the creature's environment, if they interact with it in a special way.
Typical physical characteristics
[edit | edit source]Self-explanatory.
Alignment
[edit | edit source]Self-explanatory.
Society
[edit | edit source]This section should describe the creature's culture and social structures, and how they interrelate with others of its species; especially if they are intelligent creatures. Some creatures may not have culture, like undead or plant creatures, though most creatures do in some sort. Even animals and creatures like myconids have social structure.
Religion
[edit | edit source]This section should contain details on deities worshipped by the creature, especially if the creature's species has a patron deity, as well as any notable religious practices.
Language
[edit | edit source]Details on languages used by the creature should appear in this section, especially if creatures of its type have a specific cultural language of their own, in any edition.
History
[edit | edit source]In-setting historical details, such as origins, notable events involving the creatures, or earliest records of the creature, should appear here.
