Xilonen is a giant, carnivorous semi-sentient gigantic variety of polyp found in the Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan.
Description
[edit | edit source]Xilonen was once worshipped by the Olman of Tamoachan as the "hairy mother goddess of corn".[1] It is not, however, actually divine.
It appeared to be a "withered tree, thta looks like a leafless withered willow, rooted in a stepped depression". It's "failing tentacles" would animate and could paralyze. It had a mouth concealed within the nest of tentacles which was protected by sharp spines and would try to "swallow" those who ventured too close.
Creative origins
[edit | edit source]Xilonen means "the hairy one," referring to cornsilk. Xilonen is another name for the historical Aztec goddess Chicomecoatl, who appeared in second edition Legends & Lore as Centeotl. Those who wish to flesh out the Olman cult of Xilonen might consult Centeotl's entry in that book.
