The Daughters of Syrul are a "cryptic matriarchal-led guild"[1], led by the Mother—a shadowy and elusive figure—who are adept at stealth, subterfuge, espionage, trading secrets and assassinating their enemies, all to further their dark goals in Turtleback Cove and its shipping port.
We do not forget loyalty, nor do we forgive betrayal.
They trade in information, always bartering for the upper hand, packaged in a swirling mix of lies and truth, to further their nefarious goals. When necessary, they can move with lethal grace, slipping through the night unseen and unforgiving, delivering a silent death to those who betray them. They keep a number of well hidden safe houses and some gambling dens around Turtleback Cove.
While the Daughters do not worship Syrul directly, they do "treat their mysterious directives as holy."[2] They use the honorific because their headquarters is in an old abandoned shrine of Syrul.
History
[edit | edit source]Little is known of when the Daughters of Syrul were formed, but by 576 CY they are active in Turtleback Cove, boldly mingling with the locals, from lowly dockworkers to the wealthiest merchants.
Members
[edit | edit source]Those who join the Daughters are generally scoundrels of various sorts who have committed to the Mother of their cell. Leadership roles are majority women while the men are considered a necessary evil left to do low-level manual tasks.[1]
"We needed a man for this job ...he stuck around and now we feed him." <sigh>
Regardless of role, everyone is trained in the art of lies and deceit, as well as blades and knives, in return for their commitment. They grow their membership by recruiting impressionable young children from orphanages, off the back-streets of the town and, occasionally, from the ships in port. Despite the group's name, not all in the organization are female or feminine.[1] The number of members is unknown, nor how far they've spread in the Lordship of the Isles.

Headquarters
[edit | edit source]The Daughters of Syrul base of operations at Turtleback Cove is hidden, sunken behind the front of the last house standing on Stormbattered Street within a hollowed-out tooth cavity of Kranonk'Duul's[1] (a dragon turtle) lower jaw, in an ancient shrine to Syrul. In the middle of the shrine, their main hall, stands an aging statue representing Syrul in lizardfolk form. "The shrine is in ruin and disrepair, with part above-ground and submerged/subterranean."[2]

Rumors and legends
[edit | edit source]Within the Daughters' headquarters stands a statue of a lizardfolk with malachite eyes[1] and an open mouth, from which a voice emanates ...thought to be Mother Vaeliths.
