The Sanctum of Heironeous (also simply called the Temple of Heironeous) is a large temple in the Garden Quarter of the City of Greyhawk, adjacent to the Duke's Gate in the northwestern corner of the city. It is desginated "G14" on labelled maps of the city.[1][2]
Description
[edit | edit source]The Sanctum of Heironeous' architechture is primarily "oval and spiral".[3] It is typically depicted with a wrap-around ramp which circles the structure approaching the entrance.[1][2][4][5]
Activities
[edit | edit source]The congregation of Heironeans find rest and fellowship here.[3] Some paladins who live in the city are trained here.[3] Tithes, donations, and contributions given to the church here are often used to support war efforts in the Shield Lands.[3]
The clergy here keep a very watchful eye out for evil cults and other dodgy religous groups in the Free City.[6] They were once involved in stopping the cult of Iuz from attacking the city.[6]
Holy days and observances
[edit | edit source]Most any military operation is traditionally given a "great celebration" at the Sanctum, before setting out.[7]
History

After the Greyhawk Wars, the house formerly belonging to the Knights of Holy Shielding was sold to Lord Henway, by 591 CY, the Sanctum became the primary temple of Heironeous in the Free City.[3] Knights from the Shield Lands worship here,[3] in addition to other adherents of the faith.

- Captian-general Sental Nurev (NG male human Ftr13)—an honorary elder, before his death in 583 CY[7]
- Arminder Nogg (LG male half-orc Clr5)—young priest serving at the temple in 597 CY[9]
