Wizards are the most common type of arcane spellcaster. They have various titles, and are described variously, and are sometimes referred to by the specific type of magic they practice (necromancers, evokers, illusionists, etc.) Sometimes called "magicians" or "mages" (but rarely "magi"). Originally, only high-level magic users were called wizards.

Wizardry is the most traditional form of spellcasting. Rote memorization of spells stores an "energy pattern"^[1] in the mind of the caster, later requiring a relatively short method of hand gestures, materials, or words to cause the desired magical effect. The process of casting uses up the stored magical energy from the caster's mind and the spell must be re-memorized.^[1]

This category groups together Greyhawk characters who have one or more levels in the wizard, magic-user, or mage class. This category also covers specialist wizard classes, such as the illusionist.
