This article is about the fortification. For the inn of the same name, see Griffon's Nest (inn).

Griffon's Nest is a fortification along the Knife's Edge Pass in the Abbor-Alz which separates the Duchy of Urnst and the Bright Lands.

The fortress has been present in the pass for a long time, and was constructed by dwarves.[1] It has an elaborate network of tunnels "honeycombing the hills behind and below it" which used to be the dwarves' mines. The mines reached too far down, and they connected to the underoerth, where illithids were encountered who slaughtered all of the dwarves.

In the 580s CY, the fortress is controlled by Hugo the Axe (LE male human Ftr10), [1] a self-styled "bandit king" who leads as many as 300 bandits. After lone workers and work parties began disappearing, some of the access ways were sealed by Hugo and the bandits he leads (despite not knowing what caused the abductions), and though the illithids are much fewer than previously, they continue to abduct bandits.[1]
