Sudrand Gallini’s Traveling Circus is a traveling circus in the Duchy of Urnst.[1]

Description

[edit source]

Sudrand Gallini’s Traveling Circus and Menagerie is the most famous circus in the duchy, bringing joy to peasants, nobles, and merchants alike. Founded by Sudrand Gallini, it travels across the Flanaess, often going to Bandit Kingdoms, County of Urnst, Dyvers, Nyrond, and the Theocracy of the Pale. The circus is renowned for its skilled performers, talented musicians, spectacular shows, and famous for the breadth of its menagerie.

The Gallini Circus offers something for everyone—clowns, tumblers, acrobats, fortune tellers, musicians, animal acts, and even gladiatorial bouts. Its popularity has grown so much that Gallini now sends out several smaller troupes under the same name, entertaining more people, earning more coin, and keeping acts fresh.

A major draw is its diverse menagerie of beasts, made possible by a special writ from Duke Karll Lorinar. Notable performers and creatures include Brawthraxis, the so-called Chicken Lady who claims to be a cursed Suloise noblewoman, and the enormous Gargantulosus, a huge beast that tumbled to the delight of children everywhere.

The circus folk are carefree wanderers, often running from their pasts or seeking new beginnings. Rumors persist that even young nobles have abandoned their estates to join the vibrant life of Sudrand Gallini’s Circus[2], including rumors that Duke Karll himself joined when he joined in 595 CY..[3]

History

[edit source]

For many years, Sudrand Gallini has toured the Flanaess with his renowned troupe, known for their skilled musicians, captivating acts, and marvelous traveling spectacles.[2]

To join Sudrand Gallini’s circus, a character must travel to Nellix and audition. They must display their aptitude (or potential) by giving a performance to Gallini personally. However, Gallini is known for his interest in a profitable circus, and often prospective members “encourage” Sudrand to bring them into the circus with lavish gifts or valuable enticements.[2]

Passing the audition doesn’t guarantee a place performing in the circus—unsuccessful candidates often become apprentices or fans who travel with the circus instead.

Sideshow
"Hucksters and troupers! O’ my!" The sideshow performs much of the background activities, set up and tear down while the star performers work under the big top. They hype the circus goers and get them excited for the big show.
Side show performers are often acrobat, advance man, animal trainer (smaller and less deadly animals), freak, firebreather, fortune teller, huckster, and juggler.[4]
Under the Big Top
Members are regular circus performers known within the performing community and involved in several acts, steadily rising toward stardom.
Big Top specialties include, animal trainers (larger and more deadly), clowns, equestrians, magician, marksman, mentalists, pit fighters, trapeze artists, and windjammers (musicians)[5]
